What is a web scene?
What is a web scene?

When adding a movie, I see a choice "Web scene". I've tried googling this but can't work out what a Web scene is in porn. Any light shed would be appreciated.

A "web scene" is a video, sometimes short (15 to 60 minutes), produced by a website. It may be available as a DVD compilation. Most often, it doesn't include a detailed script, but there are always exceptions.
Examples of websites that produce web scenes: MissaX, Bangbros, HookUpHotShot, EvilAngel, etc.

Thanks, just wondered because I just uploaded subs for a "She seduced me" clip, and was wondering if that was a short or a web scene.
I marked it as short because it does have a detailed script.

I wrote that there were exceptions, and I think the clips from "She Seduced Me" are categorized as "Web Scenes." They have a website for selling short videos. More and more web scenes have detailed scripts now; I apologize if I caused any confusion.
The "Porn" category includes films released in theaters or directly on DVD, Blu-ray, and the VOD Market.

Yes.
The "Web Scene" term comes from IAFD. They introduced it to make a difference between the legacy porn videos and the modern video formats provided on the web.
A small history interlude: at the beginning, there was no "WebScene" category on AVSubtitles. There was only a "Modern Porn" section, with a "short" sub-category. But it appeared very quickly there was 2 different kind of public, so we created the "WebScene" section, and kept the ModernPorn/Short apart.
WebScene are original videos, created for the internet media (even if some DVD compilations exist as Lionfacial said) and include only one scene (two in some rare cases). Thus, they involve rarely more than 4 people.
At the opposite, a "legacy" video, is more similar to mainstream movies, with a more advanced story, parallel plots, etc and includes usually about 5 scenes.
Note that now, some of the biggest studios like MissaX can provide on their site a whole movie, with 4 or 5 scenes. In this case, this kind of movie belongs to the "Porn" category.
Although Vintage loops also include only one (or two) scene, they weren't made for the web media. So they belong the the "Porn" category as well. (if a lot of loops appear on AVSubtitles one day, I'll create a "Loop" category)
I hope it's a bit more clear. If it is, I may add it to the Help section.

Thanks Lion and Truc, very clear.
I see you have moved both my last two from mod porn to web scenes. Very clear.
Yes, adding it to help topics would be helpful. Also, how far back should a movie go to be classed as vintage?
Cheers

Uploaders just have to set the category to "Porn". Then, the site will consider it as Vintage or Modern automatically.
The parameter is set to 1996.
If a movie has been released in 1996 or after, it will be in the "Modern" category.
If it was released in 1995 or before, it will be in "Vintage".

In reply to truc1979:
I have now plans to do the whole disc, which I think has 4 scenarios (including the number 3 I just did).
Seeing as these are a compilation of 4 web scenes, by your definition it should go into Porn?
Corollary question: if we get the category wrong, do you fix it automatically?

I recently uploaded Transensual's "My TA Stepmom" disc 3 episode 3, and classed it as Web Scene as it was a single scenario out of the whole disc.

Your example is one of the two cases which is not clearly defined. I'd say both locations are right, but if you post it in the "Porn" section, you have to specify the subtitles are only for the 3rd scene of the 3rd disc.
The 2nd case is when a studio make scenes, but one day they decide to release a DVD with all these scenes.
That being said, I'd tend to post it in the WebScene section, especially if the scenes don't have a link between them.
And yes, if the category is wrong, admins will fix it (but we can miss some).
