"L'Amour" is a film that I find representative of the 80s, and not just in the world of porn.
The style, the decor, the music, the characters... everything reflects my memories of that era.
It’s a film that blends seriousness and comedy, with fairly realistic characters since, at the time it was made, Kay Parker and Harry Reems (the parents) were over 40 years old. Kay Parker is truly a definition of "MILF" here, unlike modern MILFs who are played by 28-year-old women...
The story follows Ellen (Kay Parker) who returns to live with her ex-husband Vince (Harry Reems). Out of financial necessity, but also in hopes of winning him back.
Vince now lives with Gloria (Angel), a much younger and spendthrift woman.
There are girls like Ginger Lynn, Tracy Winn, Lexi Belle, ... who are so adorable that you wonder how they ended up as porn actresses. That’s the case with Angel. She made very few films, and little is known about her. But Angel left a strong impression at the time, and the publishers clearly understood her value since she’s featured alone on the film’s cover despite the presence of many famous actresses.
Warning spoilers:
Lots of scenes in this film.
It starts with Ellen’s lawyer (Jamie Gillis) making love with Ginger Lynn (unfortunately her only scene in the film, and she deserved better).
Then Vince and Gloria (with flashbacks of Vince and Ellen).
The young Mark (Tom Byron) and the young Shanna McCullough (who, in my opinion, has always been underrated).
Ellen with Jerry (her lawyer).
Gloria and Ellen.
Vince, Jerry, and two prostitutes (including a transsexual, who only gives a BJ to someone who doesn’t seem to be actually Harry Reems).
The big scene (Vince, Gloria, Mark, and Pam (Shanna McCullough)) - I’ll come back to it.
And finally Jerry and Gloria.
What I call the "big scene" is the scene that stood out to me the most in the film. Each couple is in their bedroom, but during the night, the two girls need to go to the bathroom. In the dark hallway, the two girls bump into each other and lose their bearings, so Gloria (dazed by medication) ends up in Mark’s room without realizing it, and Pam (who doesn’t know the house) ends up in Vince’s room.
Mark takes advantage of the situation and doesn’t say anything to Gloria when she starts to go down on him. Pam realizes the mistake but also takes advantage of the mix-up to sleep with Vince.
In short, the partners swap in an original and funny scene, while adding excitement.
By the way, the first scene with Pam and Mark is also marked by the return of Pam’s father, which forces them to hide in the bathroom.
The overall story holds up really well with actors who fit their characters perfectly.
The story is realistic: the divorced couple, the man who starts over with a younger woman with whom things aren’t all rosy, the young people discovering love, etc.
For the most part, the scenes are full of tenderness, and the girls are very beautiful.
I think this is a must-see film for anyone who wants to get a sense of the era. The casting is simply fantastic, especially (in my opinion) thanks to Ginger Lynn, Shanna McCullough, and Angel, who are all three stunning.
I wrote the subtitles a long time ago, and I think it was the first time I did subtitles for a film that wasn’t in my language. Looking at them now, I’m really embarrassed by those subtitles... I should find the time and courage to improve them. Sorry ^^;!
