Directed by the great Henri Pachard (AKA Ron Sullivan), the story delves into the world of crime and desire, focusing on a daring plan to steal valuable jewels from the “Fairchild” collection. The plot follows Mrs. Leautrec (played sublimely by Juliet Anderson at the height of her career), a sophisticated and enigmatic lady who devises an elaborate plot to seize a coveted set of diamonds. To carry out her objective, Leautrec is always accompanied by her charming and impulsive son (played by a strangely attractive Ron Jeremy). As the plan is put into motion, the pair face a series of dangerous situations and unexpected encounters. The greed and sexual tension that arise between the characters as they try to execute the perfect heist offer unexpected and hilarious twists that complicate all their ambitions.
As a great fan of classic Hollywood cinema, Pachard has always peppered his adult work with subtle cinematic references, emphasizing both the champagne-soaked universe of Ernst Lubitsch and the more commercial works of Alfred Hitchcock (1955's “To Catch a Thief”). But, of course, the director would be the first to admit that this is just an excuse for “glossy” critics. The true essence of an adult film lies in its sexual content, and this aspect doesn't disappoint here, presented with a distinctive style and a classic mindset. The latter is what truly sets this film apart from other porn projects with elaborate plots and sumptuous productions, where routine sex was overshadowed by plot trappings, sets, and the production itself, which ultimately are of little value to the genre in question.
The cast of "A Girl's Best Friend" truly epitomizes the “who's who” of the successful adult world of the aptly named "Golden Age." The gorgeously mature Linda Vale appears as a moderately explicit co-star, but her charms and on-screen style are indisputable. The enormous Veronica Hart plays the clumsy and delightful maid, but she's not what she seems, of course. And, though uncredited, the fantastic Samantha Fox gives Ron Jeremy a handjob on the dance floor of a nightclub. Finally, at an annual masked party hosted by Irving Greenfield (a brilliantly overacted Bobby Astyr), all identities are skillfully concealed but made obvious to viewers by the beautiful masks designed by Adam De Haven, an adult film character actor and key figure of the great Chuck Vincent.
