I use subtitle edit (and whisper models , the setup from subtitle edit to whisper actually has some commad line settings that are meant to improve say japanese or other languages when calling whisper)

But I also use Notepad++ ,particularly when comparing sub files that are very similar but not identical
I manually line up time stamps if the originals have closely similar time stamps. Its very fast you can do file compare with a single shortcut key once files are loaded.

I also use Winmerge to compare and merge files that are very similar ,its super fast an efficient if files are very close, a single key copies the line from one pane to the other.

Like others I also like getting rid of most repetitious groans etc

Another very useful feature of subtitle edit is for combining two srt files using the "File open original (translate mode)" there it lines up two srt files automatically based on time stamps so you can cut and paste between different srt files thus combining and editing two different files of the same language (instead of comparing the translation as this mode is actually meant for!). It can add a lot of blank lines when doing that but just run cleanup afterwards with only delete blank lines selected.

I believe android does have something called "Android Subtitle Editor" somewhat similar to subtitle edit
but nothing like winmerge , they only seem to have apps along the lines of diff that programmers use

I have found a few things that help me. All are on the web, no downloads, except for the first which is an app on Playstore.

1) Video to MP3 (app from Google Play store), can cut the audio to 30 minutes chunks (for Turboscribe.ai https://turboscribe.ai/) or an hour (for Freesubtitles.ai https://freesubtitles.ai/). It can also boost the sound up to 200%.

2)Throw the files into the transcribers (Turboscribe is better). Bypass their 3-a-day limit by using private mode. Both can also translate as they transcribe, but I prefer the translator on our site.

3) Combine the files using https://subtitletools.com/. It can also renumber lines and shift timings if there is a sync issue. Turboscribe has a habit of being half a second off, which this one will also fix.

4) Proofread the files, edit as necessary and upload here. Both transcribers convert some words to SFW (coming becomes crying...).

If you are doing trailers and need to embed subtitles into them, https://ezgif.com/video-subtitles.

This last is also brilliant at webp files, and can convert and resize GIFs and mp4 files into clips like those you see on my profile.
